Has anyone here grown Hoya ‘Silver Mint Coin’ to maturity beyond the juvenile stage? I’ve seen it hyped everywhere as this ultra-rare, silver-speckled minty-green stunner with coin-shaped leaves that supposedly stays compact and blooms reliably indoors-but I’m calling BS until I see real evidence from multi-year growers.
Sellers are charging $100+ for tiny cuttings, claiming it’s a stable pubicalyx hybrid that doesn’t revert or stretch like ‘Minty Silver’ or ‘Silver Splash’. But from my 15+ years with Hoyas, every “new” silver variegate eventually shows green reversions or etiolates under standard 60-75% humidity setups. My pubicalyx ‘Chimera’ took 3 years to stabilize, and even then, blooms were meh without 80%+ RH.
Post your time-lapse photos, growth logs, or bloom counts from year 2+. Does it truly outperform ‘Royal Hawaiian Purple Silver’ in low light? Or is this just another overpriced trend that’ll flood etsy in 6 months? Let’s see the data-happy to be proven wrong if you’ve got the goods.
