Whoa, fellow plant nerds, I just had a TOTAL breakthrough with my Boston ferns that I have to share - they’re exploding with life now! I accidentally left one in my bathroom steamy shower setup for a week during a humid spell, but instead of the usual wilting, it perked up like crazy. So I experimented: rigged a simple “fern spa” with a plastic bin (recycled from takeout), layered wet sphagnum moss at the bottom, popped three ferns in with their pots elevated on gravel, and added a cheap ultrasonic mister on a timer (runs 10 min every 2 hours). Temps around 70F, indirect light from north window.
Results after 3 weeks? Fronds doubled in size, no more yellowing, and bonus - spider mites vanished because the constant 80% humidity choked ’em out! Zero fertilizer yet, just distilled water in the mister. It’s like they think they’re in a rainforest cloud forest.
Has anyone hacked a low-tech version of this? Like with a tray and sponge drip? Trying it on my maidenhair next - report back if you give it a go, pics welcome! 🌿💦
